"Money was scarce, opportunities were scarce," she shared. Growing up without parental guidance and in a discouraging environment, she often felt like an outsider in her own world. But that isolation fueled her determination to escape the limits of her upbringing.
"I became an esthetician because I loved business," Erin explained. "But I didn’t have the confidence to apply to business school." Instead, she carved her own path, starting as an esthetician and quickly immersing herself in the emerging MedSpa industry.
Her journey was anything but linear. Along the way, Erin sought mentors, absorbed every lesson she could, and climbed the ranks from laser technician to regional director of a MedSpa company. Later, her career pivoted to luxury hotel spas, where she turned around failing operations and launched new ventures.
"I bottled everything I’d learned," she said. In 2021, she took the leap to launch her own coaching business, focused on teaching MedSpa owners how to lead with numbers, operations, and leadership.
An Accidental Career in Aesthetics
Brandon’s journey was equally winding. Starting as a critical care nurse, he thrived in high-pressure environments but craved a change. After working in case management and later at a software company, aesthetics wasn’t even on his radar—until a friend in Virginia opened a MedSpa in 2021.
"Within three months, she was losing her mind," Brandon recalled. "I didn’t know how to help her, but I figured it out." From managing leads to vendor relationships, he dove into the business of MedSpas headfirst. Over time, he transitioned into fractional practice management, working both onsite and virtually to help MedSpas thrive.
Brandon’s story, like Erin’s, wasn’t without its challenges. Struggles with self-acceptance in his youth and a detour through personal setbacks shaped his journey. But those experiences taught him resilience and adaptability—qualities that now guide his work in practice management.
Defining Moments That Shape the Future
Both Erin and Brandon faced defining moments where they could have given up. For Erin, it was the day she realized she wasn’t enrolled in aesthetic school due to a paperwork error. She had already moved towns, secured an apartment, and started a new job. Instead of accepting defeat, she persuaded the program director to make room for her—turning what could have been a dead end into the start of her career.
For Brandon, it was his early struggle with alcoholism, which derailed his first attempt at nursing school. "I felt guilt, shame, and remorse," he said. But he didn’t let failure define him. Years later, he returned to school, rebuilt his confidence, and earned his nursing license.
Lessons in Resilience
When asked what mindset shifts helped them overcome adversity, both Erin and Brandon offered profound insights.
"It would be unreasonable to think I’d get everything right the first time," Erin said. "Practice builds confidence. Success doesn’t teach you as much as mistakes do."
Brandon echoed the sentiment: "I can’t spend time looking in the rearview mirror. I grow and learn from mistakes, but I keep moving forward. That’s all we can do."
Their advice to their younger selves? Simple yet powerful. "Keep moving forward," Brandon said. Erin added, "You are your best masterpiece. Invest in yourself, because you can only meet others as deeply as you’ve met yourself."
